What I found worked best for me was studying in 40  minute blocks with a 10 minute break to eat or walk around the house aimlessly.
Studying for too long will make you tired and you won't retain it.If you make sure you do a couple of hours each day and do it consistently then you will be fine, but studying from when you get home to when you go to bed like apparently some people do is absolutely ridiculous and ineffective.

Cramming doesn't work. You might get good sac marks but you're going to have to relearn it for the exam. Who wants to relearn the entire course for each of their subjects in the couple of weeks before exams???? Crazy.

Also, if you are really tired all of the time then maybe visit your gp, there could be a medical reason

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think sleep works like that.
Purely based of a psych 3/4 knowledge :P
You need a certain amount of sleep before your brain starts to replenish , if you sleep in segments of two or so hours you won't enter any of the deep sleep stages where your brain recovers. Every time you wake up and you go back to sleep, you have to work your way back to deep sleep.
It is also why Naps don't actually help anyone, they don't repair the brain or body or make you less sleepy.

That's contradicting the whole idea of a powernap, which saves lives on the roads each year?  ???

But it is necessary in the long-term. If the only sleep that you're getting is in 1-2 hour blocks, I assume there will be negative consequences.

There's some interesting evidence that suggests that the body can adapt to a changed sleep cycle by accelerating into the later stages so it is theoretically possible that you can do it long term. I certainly don't recommend it for VCE, when you've got far more important things to manage, and in general I think it's a terrible idea with not much going for it, but it's quite cool to talk about.
