Beastly Study Strategy?

The one thing which really hinders my study is sleep. I've tried to suppress it through all-nighters and NoDoz, which works temporarily (and my grades/study improve) but then I crash and I end up worse off than before. Currently I'm wasting about 7-8 hrs a day sleeping.

Which led to me having an awesome idea. When I study for 90-120 minutes, I always get tired, leading to me browsing Facebook or whatever for the next half hour or so.

What if, instead of browsing Facebook, I slept for an hour after every two hours of study? Sixteen hours of study and eight hours of sleep a day... With no distractions between study sessions.

Psychology/physiology experts, would this work? I can definitely see it being feasible, with Google revealing that power naps help memory retention immediately following study.

Assuming you still have to go to school, no, it won't work. I recommend having a nap at, say, 6pm if you're finding it hard to focus on studying, but replacing your current 8 hour sleep schedule with a 2:1 ratio of study:sleep won't help at all.

It's more a proposal for long weekends (I have today until Tuesday off) and weekends in general. I have SACs next week so I'm trying to maximise study time. It's not about reducing sleep time, but rather, reducing distractions between study sessions by sleeping.

4 days isn't enough time to adjust to a radical sleep schedule like that. Don't try and reinvent the wheel by doing weird things to your sleep schedule to optimise study time. Just find ways to not get distracted whilst studying.

And remember that 16 hours a day studying is ridiculous.  If you believe that year 12 and exams is all there is to life for 2015, then I pity you ??? ... sure, sacrifice things just for your own relaxation/pleasure (like computer games etc.) but never sacrifice relationships, social events, family, friends, and your own health (i.e. sleep - it is vital to you getting a good score anyway).  Scores will feel irrelevant to you in a couple of years, but weakened relationships or mental illnesses have far more impact.

Fair enough, but could it work? For example, for swotvac or Term 1 holidays.

I would say that 16 hours a day on the long weekend prior to triple SAC week is reasonable, especially if you fell short of your goals for your last SAC. It wouldn't be like I just study and sleep everyday for the rest of year 12, but for me, the cram before the assessment always has the greatest impact on my results.

I never troll, I was genuinely interested in seeing if this would actually work  >:(
He was referring to 99.90 pls.

I don't think he trolls anymore, although some of the comments he used to make did make me chuckle.

True dat, cramming is the most effective mark-getting high-SAC-ranking technique I know of :P though it can result in exam flop.  But I'd still question spending that much time to prepare for SACs - are your study techniques efficient/effective?  Since quality > quantity, always.  (I probably did about 1/4 of that ::) ... not that I ever had the goal, or ability, to get 99.90).

Be a psychology experiment for us all by trying this during term 1 holidays (it's early in the year so a disaster won't be the end of the world) but play it safe and normal once you get to swotvac... not a psychologist, but I believe we were made to sleep at night and stay awake in the day, so I don't know what it would do to you (except ensure that you 'bust' on Dec 15th ;) ).

It's irrelevant anyway, no one could possibly have the willpower to maintain such a rigorous schedule.
Except that I don't have anything to study, I'm almost tempted to take up the challenge :P

You are not wasting your time by sleeping. Sleep is your ally during Year 12; sleep is not your foe.

Yeah, I'm not abandoning sleep, I'm just seeing if I can spread it out in a more efficient manner.

Yeah, definitely haha

I feel that this could really make a difference if I pull it of well.

It's irrelevant anyway, no one could possibly have the willpower to maintain such a rigorous schedule.

Accepting that statement from the outset dooms you to validating it. Not trolling btw; just willing to explore the arcane ;)

Uberman Sleep Schedule?

Except this is more like the lazy man's Uberman; you get eight hours a day instead of 2.75 lol. This seems a lot more feasible now
