The only way to get not "cocky" I guess, is to know that there are so many things that is unknown to us and that we still have heaps and heaps of things to learn.
Naturally, those who are smart and score well can't help but be modest because they KNOW how much they don't know.

But it's always nice to have a little confidence in yourself. After all, believing in yourself is important to achieve well. But save that for the exam time. For now, study your ass off. Get ahead of class, that's what I do. If you get ahead by one class, get ahead by two and so on. You have so many things to learn (so do I lol) Go for it!!

If you feel you might get cocky because of your performance in a subject, realise that you're up against the entire state in all of your subjects. You might be the strongest in a subject out of your group of friends, your class or your entire school, but there's probably someone out there in the state stronger than you (there are scary people like lzxnl out there). Put things into perspective.

Also, keep in mind that being cocky in VCE can make you come across quite badly on those who are genuinely having a hard time with the workload and studies - be respectful of those people as the VCE journey is different for everyone.
