hi
I was wondering if it is possible to get 99+ ATAR without specialist maths.I mean whenever I talked with my friends they said that only with specialist maths and a language like Chinese you can get 99+. I am doing maths methods and chemistry and physics and biology and EAL and I have done further maths lat year(47 raw). :D :D :D

Absolutely, it is!

I think they may be talking about receiving an ATAR of 99.95.

Your friends might have said this as it was technically impossible to get 99.95 without doing a subject that scales over 50 last year (such as Specialist Maths, Latin, etc.), as it is true the aggregate required was so high in this respect. However, it is still very possible for you to get a score of 99.00+ even without any subjects that scale up. The scaling all works itself out in the end in the sense that you can't do any specific combination of subjects to get a better score, so you should just focus on getting the highest score you can by putting in maximum effort and everything will work out if you play your cards right.

keep up the 47s and youll get over 99 no dramas HAHA
scaling has less of an effect the further away from 30 you go so by the time you are looking at the 99s magnitude of atars you will be getting high 40s anyway so scaling wont mean much, but it is true that in SOME years (not every year) you cant get 99.95 (you can still get 99.90) without a subject that scales over 50
but your subjects are good do well and 99+ is acheivable! play around on atarcalc on the site and see what scores you need for your goals
good luck
