Typical 40+ student

I know its really dependent on the individual, but speaking generally what kind of work does a 40+ raw methods student do in terms of study? How do they go about completing their work to ensure both quality and quantity is achieved? What extra resources and to what accuracy (in terms of scores/percentages)? Etc.

So I got a 41 last year, which puts me into your category :) Basically to get my score I worked insanely hard the whole year. I wish I could tell you that there was some magic presentation or notes, but in the end it was just doing all the questions in my textbook, annoying my teacher incessantly and doing 40+ practise exams. Worked solutions are a big help. Personally, I went to a few revision lectures, seminars etc but the only thing I found useful was sitting down and getting some work done. Good luck :)
2014: Methods (41)
2015: English (50), Accounting (45), Chemistry (49), Physics (42), Spec (36)
ATAR 99.65
ps moss is great

Thats where im stuck though. I nut out the every single question in the textbook, checkpoints, Neap sacs, AN sacs, chapter reviews. But im not sure really what a 40+ student should be getting with refrence to marks when doing them. Should i be able to do every question in checkpoints? Etc. Im just not sure if what im doing is right TBH. Im putting the work in but i feels its not enough or that im doing it all wrong. The AN sacs killed me, only passed like 4 of the 8. SOooo hard. And im not sure what i should be getting on them to be sitting aorund the 40 mark. Thanks for the response and congrats on the 40+ (hopefully that will be me) :).

Doesn't sound like I'd be able to help you that much then- I didn't really do any external resources but exams. With checkpoints, as they're questions from old exams, yes you should be getting them right most of the time. If you want a rough idea of marks, I got 3 A+s, was averaging high 90s in all my practise exams, and in the end got screwed by my low sac rank. Honestly though, don't stress- when I first started doing practise exams around September, I was averaging 70s. Repeat questions that you've struggled with a week or so later after you've spoken to a teacher or looked at the solutions and you should see some improvement :)

Oh nice. Its so daughting though, the unknwon of it all i guess. I guess ill just keep on doing what im doing. Im not in a bad position for sac/rankings. My class is weak as anything, and im currentely rank 1. I screwed up my first functions sac by making stupid mistakes and being cocky thinking i was going to be fine, rushing through it and not checking it cause i revised for it for so long, and lost like 5 marks. Still ranked 1 on it though which is the major thing i guess.

Sorry, the Exampro practice SAC's which are written by past students from AN and is as far as im aware was previously the AtarNotes study guides but got renamed to ExamPro. Look in the resources tab on the top of the Atarnotes homepage.

I think that with subjects like methods consistency really is the key, and it sounds like you are putting in the work, so I would say just keep doing what you are doing! You can't expect to be getting 100% on exam style questions to start with. Just use them to work out what your weaknesses are, whether they are gaps in your knowledge , that sort of thing. From there you will start to see improvement if you are studying right, so just keep at it no matter how hard a 40 might seem right now.

In terms of specific marks, I'm probably not the most qualified person to answer since I too was aiming for 40 and ended up with a 50.😶(Still don't know how I managed that!) But I can tell you  I certainly wasn't getting 100% on checkpoints or anything.  In the end all you need to do is keep that rank 1 and then it will come down to the exam

SAY WHAT! That line, " I'm probably not the most qualified person to answer since I too was aiming for 40 and ended up with a 50". My dream. Ahahaha. But thats the thing, im putting in the work, and drying to go over my weaknesses but it still feels like im not improving. Ahh well, can only try my best. I guess if i maintain rank 1, the sooner that i start exams the better.

How are you finding Physics as well? What have you been doing for it in terms of study? Im really enjoying, i probably should start dedicating more time to it then i am, but my teacher is really really good this year which is nice.

Cosec, you seem to be making heaps of threads about "how to get 90+" , "40+ student" etc. A few tips  i will give you. Do heaps of questions, know where you went wrong, seek help, Do heaps of questions, know where you went wrong, seek help,Do heaps of questions, know where you went wrong, seek help,Do heaps of questions, know where you went wrong, seek help.

There is no formula to it, you will know how you are by completing papers/sacs, and make surenot to make the same mistake again.

This is the advice in a nutshell i got from a guy who got 4 50s in his VCE.

"I guess if I maintain rank 1 the sooner I start practice exams the better"
I think that this is the key. Keep that rank 1, and make sure you understand everything, then later just start doing prac exams. I only did about 40 and didn't start them until towards the end of the September holidays but remember that it was my only 3&4 so it would be better to start earlier. What I did do was make a little book and write down every mistake I made in it. I would then tally it up and work out where my lost marks were coming from, like not reading the question or forgetting to consider the implied domain or whatever. This was honestly the most helpful thing I did, and something you could probably start to use now.

Physics: way too neglected... If only I could find the motivation to actually put in the work😩
