DVM Melb Uni

Hi,

So I'm a 3rd year melb uni science student who is hoping to get into the DVM at the end of this year. I applied but didn't get in at the end of second year. My average is a H2A, and according to the DVM homepage, an 81 is required to get a CSP. Just wondering if there is anyone in the DVM or wanting to apply that has any info as to whether this grade varies or not? Would doing an honours year boost a GPA for admission? Is this any lower for full fee paying?

Also, any info on other uni's that offer DVM or vet science would be appreciated :)

Thanks!

Hi,

I'm 3rd year science as well but I've heard that the average for a CSP is generally around the same (~80-81).
With regards to selection this page/link makes it clear what they look for in detail: http://www.vet.unimelb.edu.au/docs/SelectionGuidelinesDVM.pdf
Since the order of applicants will be ranked with CSP being given to highest rank students, it's quite reasonable to assume that Full fee places can be attained with lower marks (I'd hazard a guess ~high 70s) - whether you want to pay the hefty fees is another case.

USyd also offers DVM however their selection criteria is a little different:
- GPA (credit average minimum)
- Prerequisite units
- DVM statement including relevant work experience and animal handling experience

Hi,
I'm 3rd year science student who luckily got into DVM at end of 2nd year.  80-81 is minimum to get CSP.  Basically everyone is ranked by marks, they count down the number of students for enrolment and rule a line.  Above the line- you get in.  If a couple of students are on same mark, they use the personal statement to separate.  It's pretty cut-throat.  an Honours year or PhD adds between 2 and 4 points to your score.  At an info day I went to, they said not to put too much emphasis on doing the Honours year in the hope you will get in.  FFP is only slightly lower- high 70's.  If you got over 95 ATAR, you have option of FFP  guaranteed entry.
