Hey everyone!

By now pretty much all English Language students would be studying Unit 4 AOS 1, which is language variation in Australian society.

As part of this AOS 1, students will be looking at the unique Australian cultural values of mateship, friendliness, egalitarianism and so forth.

I found this really interesting article on the cultural background of the phrase 'no worries mate'.

According to linguist Anna Weirzbicka, the expression exemplifies Aussie culture, including: "amiability, friendliness, an expectation of shared attitudes (a proneness to easy 'mateship'), jocular toughness, good humour, and, above all, casual optimism."
