Is a 92-98 ATAR achievable?

Hey everyone!

My goal ATAR is a 92 (for Deakin Law) but my dream ATAR is a 98 (for Monash Law), although I am highly doubtful I will receive anywhere near that. I was just posting to ask people who have already completed year 12 or are really familiar with the grading system to tell me whether or not a 92 ATAR is achievable with my current grades. Thankyou!

I am currently doing Units 3&4 in English, Business Management, Psychology and Economics.
Last year I did Units 3&4 in Literature and Legal studies.

My overall scores for Unit 3 in each subject this year are:

English: 95/100
Business Management: 99/100
Psychology: 98/100
Economics: 94/100

Last year I received a 36 SS for Legal Studies and a 29 SS for Literature (did not take them as seriously as I should have since I was in year 11).

Going by my Unit 3 scores this year, if I am able to keep my scores relatively the same for Unit 4, and perform well in the exam, what SS can I expect for each subject? What ATAR is achievable given I keep up these scores?

Also, if I get just above average on the exam, or in the 70-80% range, will my SAC marks be enough to help me achieve my goal ATAR? And how will this affect my SS for each subject?

Thankyou!  :D

If you do as well in your exams as your sacs , even a 99 won't be a problem.
2015-2017: Bachelor of Biomedicine (Neuroscience)
2018: Doctor of Medicine (Withdrawn)
2019: Bachelor of Commerce (Actuarial Studies?)

What will happen if I get around a 70-80% on my exam and don't do as well? What SS would I be looking at for my subjects?  Will it bring my SAC marks down?

With your study scores from last year, two 40 and two 41 study scores are required to achieve 92 (I Atarcaled it).

Although those are some great SAC scores you got there, it's difficult to tell the study scores you can get from your SACs alone. It also depends on how you are ranked and the difficulty/harshness in marking in your SACS. For example, my school sets pretty difficult English SACs under exam conditions and the teacher mark them pretty harshly because some of them are assessors. The averages on our English SACs are typically 65-73% (the lang analysis SAC was 60%), but over 50% of the students got 40 and above for English. Even a couple of people that have been averaging B+ on the SACS managed to score 43-45.

If your rank within the cohort if really good and achieve an A+ in the exam, you will probably get a study score of 40 or above. The A+ cut-off in the English exam is around 80% and for Economics between 85-90%. I'm not too sure about the A+ cut-offs for Psych and Busman.

If you get 70-80% on the exam, you won't get 40+ unfortunately (you'll probably be looking at 33-38 depending on the subject, toward 38 is in the high 70s and towards 33-35 it's in the low 70s). If you don't do well in the exam, SACs can't help you much (and they will probably be moderated down because of the mismatch between your exam and sac scores, vcaa will probably assume the SACs your school set weren't up to standard, especially if most people in your cohort got great sacs marks but didn't do very well in the exam).

Thankyou so much for that!

For Business Management and Psychology I think I am ranked 1st or 2nd, for English I wouldn't have a clue and Economics 2nd.

I have heard before that my Psych, Business and English teachers mark harshly, and now I am kind of hoping that is true!

So basically I have to get at least an A+ in the exam to get within the 40's?

Thankyou!

GA1 - Low A+ GA2 - Low A+ GA3 - Low A+ = 39+

GA1 - Mid A+ GA2 - Mid A+ GA3 - Mid A+ = 42+

GA1 - High A+ GA2 - High A+ GA3 - High A+ = 45+

GA1 - Very High A+ GA2 - Very High A+ GA3 - Very High A+ = 48

With those rankings, you're going to be unaffected by how the rest of the cohort performs. Yeah, with an A+ on the exam you'll most likely get 40+, with those SAC marks and ranking.  In rare cases, there are people that got A+ on the exam and ended up with study scores like 37-39, but that's probably because their SACS/ranking let them down a bit or that  they just touched the A+ cut-off.  Aim to get slightly over the cut-off for an A+ instead of just touching it, because it's safest that way.

Good Luck!

So I need an A+ for everything  :-[

This is going to be so impossible!

no you dont.. that was theoretical - and i stuffed up on the last part. Its supposed to say 48+

With that attitude, yes.
VCE, like life, is what you make of it.
With your SAC marks as of yet, and your goals, nothing is out of reach  ;)
