Remembering formula of compounds?

Hello,

In some sacs and practise questions ive been doing there is mention to compounds (benzoic acid) where i am unsure of the formula of the compound and i end up guessing.

Does anyone have a list of all that we should have memorised or perhaps have a methods for determining them?

Thanks

There are quite a lot listed in the Chemistry data book, which you should have in every single SAC/test readily available. To know stuff like all of the fatty acids off by heart would be ridiculous and not test your skill in the subject, so that's why VCAA exams rarely (never) would require you to know niche compounds (really common ones or those you do in organic chem are fair game, though). If they aren't in your data book, able to be found out in the question itself, or seem like common knowledge, it's probably a result of the question being poorly written. I wouldn't waste your time trying to learn a long list, to be honest.
