I was in the same position all of last year and most of this year. I made several posts about it on these forums, in fact.

I was extremely hesitant about buying a Mac, but in the end I did. I am absolutely pleased with my decision thus far. It has been perfect for what I need. I bought an 11" Air.

10/10 would recommend if it's in your budget.

Oxford comma, Garamond, Avett Brothers, Orla Gartland enthusiast.

I thought I would let anyone know who is thinking about buying a Surface Pro. Once you damage the screen, you have to replace the whole tablet.

Any brand recommendations for something Windows based ? Not interested in Mac.

Thinkpad T450S, Dell XPS 13 / 15 - pay a premium for better build quality, higher battery life

Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga, Lenovo Yoga 3, Windows Surface / Surface Pro series - tablets/hybrids

Thinkpad Edge 450/550, most ASUS laptops - cheaper, but mediocre-poor build quality, lower battery life

And yeah, you can just get a mac and boot windows on it.

Apple is the only company that doesn't overcharge for their products in Australia - once you convert the USD price of a macbook and add 10% GST their prices are roughly the same in AUS and the US. Compared to Dell, Lenovo who add an extra $200-500 for no real reason on their laptops.

Most laptops that can handle LoL while still being cheap and light will often have handicaps like nonexistent battery life, garbage build quality, poor screens, etc. I believe an integrated HD5500 can handle LoL without problems.

Get a Macbook Pro or Dell XPS if you can afford the premium

Otherwise, a cheap option would be the Thinkpad Edge 450 or 550 (add i5 5200u), ~$650 after student discount
