Good laptops for uni

Hi guys,

Can someone suggest me a good laptop? I just need it for lectures and I do most of my work on it so battery life is a must. The weight is also a concern since I don't want to carry too much while on campus.
Any suggestions and comments will be great on what you are using will be helpful!

most of the kids i see at uni either have macbooks or android tablets. do not get a toshiba satellite because everyone i know who owns one has had the hinge start to break after a year

Microsoft Surface Pro 3 is good as the battery life is pretty awesome (7-8 hours worth), if you do end up buying the surface, don't play games on it because it drains battery life (mine only lasts for 4-5 hours now). It's really lightweight and takes up not as much space in a schoolbag.

i use a Surface Pro 3 and I think it's pretty good., Lightweight(like 900 grams I think?), good battery life(lasts ~9 hours - i don't use it all the time so I could go days without recharging it), can easily be used as a tablet for reading textbook pdfs and then into a laptop to type up your assignments etc.

Only things I don't like about it is that the keyboard is cramped so it's difficult for me to type on it with my chubby fingers + the tablet doesn't support itself on the keyboard so I can't use it while laying down on my bed

I'm just going to do that think I do every time someone asks about laptops and push for chromebook, because super cheap, super light, super long battery life (people think 7-8 hours is good? Because I've used this thing for 13 hours straight once)

I have a Macbook air, it's awesome; do get it if you can; but preferably a Pro if you can afford it...

Apple is overrated in my humble opinion. Overpriced and not as good as people make it out to be. It's really lightweight though and it's definitely the most popular choice of students.

Apple products are expensive but I'm yet to find a better laptop for study purposes, despite a lot of looking.

If you just want to take notes, you might not need a fully featured laptop and can get away with a chromebook or similarly underpowered laptop.

Personally I'd recommend a Surface pro 3 good battery life, lightweight, and powerful enough for anything you'd be doing in lectures.

Plenty of computer scientists use Macs for the Unix environment (or Ubuntu).

I'd also recommend a surface of any type. I own a surface 3 and can't imagine a laptop without touch input. Seriously, people with Macs are missing out. Especially if you take math classes, the pen does wonders. Also incredibly light, doubles up as a big tablet. But if you want a traditional laptop, MacBook is the best, not acctually overpriced compared to competitors, but overpriced what what it can do.

My laptop recently died after 3.5 years of loyal service. Just wanted a laptop to do the basics (ie. no gaming or high-powered software) and got an ASUS F302L. It's pretty decent so far: fairly light and portable (13.3"), 6hr battery life, 1 TB space, 4 GB memory. Even better when I upgraded to Windows 10. Cheap too, something like $700 from Dick Smith.
