Practice Exams - which to do?
« on: August 24, 2015, 08:46:22 pm »

Hi all,

as the conclusion of term three approaches so does the imminence of our frighteningly fateful end-of-year exams.

I was wondering If anybody could recommend which physics prac exams are best to prioritise (other than VCAA)?
I.e. which companies are best avoided, which companies produce the best, what years should we ignore?

Thanks

From what Ive heard, insight exams tend to have many mistakes within the solutions and the exams themselves. My teacher recommended neap, Lisachem and STAV after vcaa.

I'm also curious about this as I've almost finished the VCAA ones and my teacher said he is prepared to buy extra materials. So, neap, Lisachem and STAV come with solutions and will help me get over 45? Sorry for obvious questions im just really nervous at the moment.

Yep, the best ones are VCAA, Lisachem,  and STAV. Neap is also not too bad, but they can have some questions which are much harder than VCAA.

Those are the best ones to practice with in my opinion. But don't think simply rushing through all the available papers will get you a 45+, make sure you're learning something from them or there's no point. You'll also find there is a huge amount of repetition in papers, I ended up just reading through papers in the last week before the physics exam.

How would it compare with something like Checkpoints?

i'd say do every exam you can get your hands on, like the others said, neap and lisachem are good. stav is a lil meh

you can try itute too, but they are ridiculously hard. you should be overjoyed with 80%

Checkpoints are shit imo, just compiled past vcaa exams
Exampro aren't too hard, roughly vcaa level, but every question has a thorough detailed explanation which is the best part

Would anyone recommend buying any of these first hand or is it better to buy them second hand, hoping that they aren't already scribbled on?
