how hard is it to get a 30+ in English Language?

Hi guys,

I really want a 30+ in EngLang, is it possible still?
I haven't done well on SACs, cohort not great either.
I haven't attempted practice exams because I can't find many available + I wanna save them till later :( (VCAA ones seem to have a lot of stuff copyrighted which isn't viewable)
I also haven't written many practice essays and AC's at all this year. But from now till exams I'm gonna try and revise over metalanguage and write lots, but my teacher won't be able to correct essays anyway :(
How many marks would you need to get on the exam, given my circumstance? Would getting 40-50/75 suffice?

Thanks

Hi there!

I am sorry to hear you feel this way. Honestly, success in VCE English Language, and any VCE subject for that matter, is all about hard work. You just need to practice, practice, practice. I understand your teacher won't be able to correct essays (why not?), so your best bet would be to expose yourself to A+ essays from study guides and past assessments (Green Book would be great!). This way, you know what to write and how to write it. I am not quite sure how many marks you would need to get, however, I would recommend that you just work hard enough to not worry about it (if that makes sense).

Go out there and smash it!

All the best,
Dmitri.

I asked my teacher for most of the copyrighted stuff and for whatever I couldn't, I pulled bits and pieces of old VCAA ones that I could use (i.e. not copyrighted) and made my own exams that way. Basically the same thing, though a bit inconvenient.

Anyway, to answer your question directly in one word: yes. The same thing happened to me. I went in thinking I'd get a 22. (Seriously, I wrote this down when our teacher told us to write out EL goals.) To make a long story short, I beat the 30 SS mark. So you definitely have a chance still. Just don't give up - you're most likely thinking down upon yourself this time of year (understandably) and will actually perform much better than you think. Just keep practising and holding on to hope.

If you don't mind me asking, what was your average sac mark throughout the year? I really need at least a 28 raw and my sacs haven't been great.
English (44)
Bus man (38)
Indo (37)
Eng Lang (34)
Atar: 92.3

Don't worry too much about your average SAC mark. You've done as much as you did and likely tried your best. You can't change what's happened already, unless you have a functioning time machine. (If you do, can I please borrow it?) I'd say to focus on your exams now, because that's something you can honestly work towards doing well and will be worth the most. Remember, you can't change the past, but you can always change the future. (Sorry, as cheesy and repetitive as it sounds - I have used this quote a few times - it is some of the best advice I have ever received.)

However, if you're still curious and urgently need to know, you may PM me (it is my personal information, so please respect).
