Possible effect of losing rank 1 on SS

I've been quite concerned with Specialist after I had a panic attack during the final SAC on Monday and reckon I consequently lost 8-9 marks out of 45, completely due to rushing and silly mistakes :(.
As a result, my previous position as rank 1 is 'in the balance'. I believe I've maintained rank 1 (either top or full mark) for every single SAC up to this, and this SAC was only worth 1/6 of Unit 4 SAC marks so it's 1/10 of total SAC marks, so hopefully it won't happen. However, I'm interested in the worst case scenario - if I fall to say Rank 2?
Some background - the Distance Ed cohort is rather weak cohort of ~65-70 students. Historically only 2-3 students manage 40+ yearly.
2014: 2 students were 40+, a 46 and a 44 (quite a good year), years before that were more like one or two 41 or 42s.
So If I were a rank 2 and full mark the exam (which I believe is a reasonable prospect), what would the potential magnitude of the effect be on my SS?
I.e. if the top 2 exam marks are 120 and 100, and I got the second exam mark, in reality how far could I fall in terms of exam mark? :P

It's more about the whole cohort, not just rank 2. If anyone overperforms your rank 2 sac score won't be too bad.

So assuming only one guy 40+s (worst case) you'll suffer a drop to around a 95/100 sac scaling, maybe slightly less. I presume that's probably a half to one exam mark penalty after sac scaling, meaning you probably won't get premiers despite full marking the exam, but a 50 is still possible.

If no one gets 40+ it's a bit dire (you may no longer be able to get a 50 from rank 2) but I'd guess that 48/49 is still possible.

Not too much of a big impact in the grand scheme of things (and if no one gets 40+ apart from you, it's a bit weird how you'd fall behind in the first place even if you screwed up!)

All the best though!!

Thanks Hamo94, I bow to your knowledge on the technicalities of scores.
Just another question: how is a 49-50 achievable from a Rank 2 given that the second highest exam score becomes your sac mark, in the case that the Rank 1 gets a low-mid 40? Or is that just because 40+ is like top 8% already?

Not sure about the rest, but I believe that a scaled 40 is top 8%.
