see, you're seeing "high marks in school" as meaning "high intelligence", so obviously it's not gonna work. Maybe those competitive kids are the top kids BECAUSE they are competitive, not the other way around.

The only two people I know with IQs of 140+ (after doing credible IQ tests) also happen to be the top 2 achievers in my year level.

A study done of 60 people with IQs of 160 and above found a quarter of them were "not doing well, and not very happy" and several of them didn't pass year 12. So now there's some sort of evidence.
