hey guys, i dont really understand Huygens wave model, some examples would be great. Im not in 3/4 but could you please help me. this is what i have
Thanks
Newtons particle model
Travels - Once ejected continues in straight line until they hit a surface (example by sharp shadows).
Reflection - Particles that approach the surface are repelled by a force at the surface that slows down and reverses the particles velocity (laws of reflection could be derived from laws of motion).
Refraction - Light bends towards the normal when moving from air to water. Water attracted light particles, particle's speeds increases. Increased speed causes particles path to bend towards the normal.
Huygen's wave model
Travels - Every point in the wavefront is a source of a small wavelets. New wavefront is the envelope of all the wavelets. Mini semi circles produced that hit max point at next line.
Reflection - Each wavefront arrives at the surface, it produces a reflected wavelet. New wavelets overlap to produce the next wavefront, which is travelling away at an equal angle of its approach.
Refraction - Light is bent towards the normal as it passes a denser medium and the speed slows down. Snell's law can be explain by this model.
Who is correct? Thomas Young showed that light could bend around an edge so the rejection of particle model and wave model re-emerged. Proved that speed of light in water was slower than in air.
