Exam 2 2015
« on: November 09, 2015, 06:53:23 pm »
Here are my answer's to this year's exam 2:
http://www.mediafire.com/view/vriwxga7bkcxcm5/Exam_2_Solutions.pdf
There may be some errors as I did this quite quickly.
I know my Direction Field goes through the incorrect points, but I've redrawn it and still believe I have the correct answer for that one.
Wow, they really hammered Argand Diagrams and "which of these is correct/incorrect" this year!

Yeah, fairly certain about Q9, spent more time on that than any other question. The relevant working is boxed (using the cos double angle formula)

Also 4aii) I think the angle is 47 degrees?

Q9 I got C because the magnitude of z2 is smaller than 1, as confirmed by A. So r1/r2 would be like 1/0.5 = 2 which is more than r1?

Also guys how many marks would they take off for rounding errors? I have done it more than once, and hence the next question which also has a decimal would be ever so slightly off, like by 0.01, would they only take 1 mark per question or exam?

I have a gut feeling this question will have a lot of controversy surrounding it for years to come.

Yup 9 was C, it's a result of r2<1 which is obviously true (r1r2 < r1)

Unfortunately I don't think it's D for 16....

Also what did people get for 4 ii (the angle)?

16 is A. The tensions are vectors, not magnitudes, so by the definition of an equilibrium, the sum of the forces will equal 0, so A.
