Revoking Credit Under Double Degree

Hey guys!

I am studying a Bachelor of Arts/Commerce and want to double major in Chinese Studies and Communication and Media Studies. However, I have completed two units which I found is no longer where I want to go with my studies. This means I will not have the required eight units to major in Communication and Media Studies. It is possible for me to not count the two units that I have already completed to my degree.

Has anyone has any experience with revoking credits and whatnot under a double degree?

With regards to the Arts faculty I have been told a few things about this. At first I was told that you can revoke credit at any stage of your degree because like why would Monash care, they get paid even if you get credit removed from a unit. But then I was told you can't, and that you can only revoke credit if you've transferred from one degree to another and have decided you do not want credit for units that you had transferred over and would rather do more units.

The fact that you're doing a double degree doesnt really matter I think, it's more so that you're wanting to change majors in a sense, and according to Monash policies, the faculty should be able to revoke credit so that you can complete your major.

I cant be bothered looking for it coz I remember it took me ages to find it, but that's definitely in Monash policy if you google search it.

To the best of my knowledge, you cant just revoke credit cause you feel like it. It would lead to a lot of perverse incentives (revoking fails, etc).

Two main situations, one as SBC detailed with transferring, another is in case you are seriously ill or impaired only after the census date and thus had to finish the unit anyway. In this case it may also be revoked.

In terms of messing up your subject selection (hey, we've all been there), you'll probably have to lie in the bed you've made and just do the best with what you've got (again, i've been there).

If it makes it impossible for you to graduate, you may be allowed to do other units on a normal basis but i've also seen people offered to do them on a full fee, single unit basis as well.

As with all things, contact the faculty to be sure.
