Given that the acceleration of objects near Earth's surface is directed vertically downward, explain why bullet shot horizontally from a height, h ,hits the ground at the same time as one dropped from the same height.

thankyou

Consider the horizontal component of velocity only. Galileo highlighted via his famous experiment that regardless of mass two objects dropped from the same height at the same time will hit the ground at the same time. If one object (bullet) has a horizontal component how does this effect how fast it will fall vertically ? It doesn't.

Additionally. A bullet fired directly to the vertical has an initial vertical velocity of zero. an object dropped from that same height also has an initial vertical velocity of zero. using D = vi*t + (0.5)*(-10)*(t^2) and assuming the distance traveled is the same solving for t will net the same result as (vi*t) = (0*t) and ultimately D = (0.5)*(-10)*(t^2)

Hope this helps
