Motivational quotes

Hey everyone,

So me and rishi97 have for some time been thinking about making a motivational quote thread. Quotes are powerful in that a simple sentence can make someone motivated and help them achieve their goals.

I remember in year 12 I had quotes all over my wall, from people I looked up too, and even some of my teachers who has said some really nice things. These quotes got me through all the hard times during VCE, gave me a sense of belief and a reason/will power to keep going.

So the purpose of this thread is for one person to write up a motivational quote, and write what the quote means to them. Why it gets you motivated. One quote per person, per day. Cheers!

I'll go first;

''Don't let anyone's ignorance, hate, drama, negativity stop you from becoming the best person you can be''

***There was a point in university where I was getting carried away about what other people were doing, what other people thought of me and etc. it was changing me, and begun to stress me out. This quote made me realise that I should be happy with who I am, and that I should always be myself. I should never let anyone else change me, you can either love the person I am, but can never change me.

PS - Hope this is the right place to post this, if not mods feel free to relocate

Really great idea to make a quotes thread Rod :p
I love quotes and really feel that they can have a very powerful influence on an individual

My quote:
Life is life a camera. Focus on what's important. Capture the good times. Develop from the negatives. And if things don't work out; take another shot.

Life can always have its up ands downs and coming from a university student, uni can have a major toll on you emotionally. It gets really stressful at times and sometimes you just want to give up. However, it is at these times we need to look back at our achievements and see what we have accomplished. Even if they are little things, we should appreciate them and life automatically becomes better. The most important thing in life is to enjoy everything, be proud of your accomplishments and if they weren't what you expected, then just have another go. Don't give up ! :)

I remember one day at my school, a group of year 12s wrote a quote accompanied with visuals. On the left was a straight arrow, pointing from the bottom left to the top right, like the image attached.
Underneath, there was a quote: "What people think success is."

On the right was the same arrow, but instead of pointing straight up, the arrow is curved before is eventually points in the same direction. Underneath that picture was "What success really is."

And the point was that the path to success, more specifically, VCE success is not a straight line. There will be setbacks, stresses, though times, struggles and etc... But if you can get past all that, then you can achieve success as long as you keep heading into this path.

This comes directly from my parents, and it is inspired by the events in their childhood and I hold it dearly in my life.

Great idea Rod, I love quotes and I completely agree about their influence !

"Quality over quantity"
I apply this to absolutely everything in my life, from important things to trivial things. This particular quote has really helped me to prioritize things in my life, it's helped me to see where I need to put my time and effort, and especially with people; who deserves a place in my life and who doesn't. My absolute favorite of all time.

"Be gentle with yourself" - Max Ehrmann
This just reminds me that we're all human and we all make mistakes from time to time. It's so easy to berate yourself and put yourself down when things go wrong, but this really reminds me to love myself and take care of myself in those times. Everyone deserves a break sometime, our mistakes don't mean we're worth any less. And I think that's a really important thing to remember.

Very good idea! Another one I really loved since I found it from a Facebook page was

You can't have all you want, but you can give it all you've got

Try your best.

If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough.

'Rise and Rise again until Lambs become Lions'

'Don't be afraid that your life will end, be afraid that it will never begin!'

'Cape Diem' (seize the day!)

“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you've imagined.”

'If you follow the crowd, you will go no further than the crowd. But if you walk alone, and find your own way, you will likely find yourself in places no one has ever been before'

hope these help! :)

"We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give." -not sure who said this, oops  :-[

I found this again just a few days ago and it's just a really great reminder to look at the big picture, especially during VCE. We're all so focussed on getting that ATAR, getting that course, getting that university, getting a job, earning money. It is so easy to forget that there are other things that matter.
It helps me to remember that the mark we leave on the world is the influence we have on others, not what we do for ourselves (not that this isn't important!). It encourages me to help others wherever I can, to appreciate the little and big things that are being done around me.

Great idea by the way, definitely going to be revisiting this thread a lot! :)

Success is like a train. It has several coaches like discipline, hard work, focus, skills & luck. Leading them all is the engine; that is self confidence.

Self-confidence is one of the biggest factors that can make an individual successful. No matter what other good qualities you have, you will never achieve all your expectations without confidence. If you believe in yourself, everything will fall into place. Dream, Believe, Achieve xD

adding my two cents worth;

"Failing to plan is planning to fail"

Before you do anything in life, or at school or during VCE, plan, plan, plan. When faced with a task, look at your desired outcome and determine the necessary steps to take to accomplish this. Otherwise, you have set yourself up to fail.
