Hi all,
I am offering tutoring for the upcoming Monash MD Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs).
I completed my 4th year of Monash MD in 2017, and am now undertaking a PhD (MD-PhD pathway). I completed VCE in 2013 with a perfect ATAR of 99.95. For those seeking individual/group help in the lead up to the interviews, I will be tutoring/coaching students this November and December in preparation for the MMIs in early January.
In regard to my experience, I have tutored for the MMI for the last 5 years. In 2015 I tutored 4 students for the Monash MMIs, and fortunately all four were able to secure a place in the course (a testament to their ability, not mine). In 2016, I tutored 9 students, and 6 of the students entered the Monash medicine program. In 2017, I tutored 11 students overall, and 7 were accepted into medicine at Monash. I also (obviously) went through the MMI process and have a great understanding as to how the questions are asked, and what the examiners are looking for in your responses.
I assisted with the Monash MMIs myself last year in 2018, and hence did not tutor for the interview that year. I have tutored several postgraduate students as well for the postgraduate entry into MD. I understand that any interview is extremely stressful, so preparation and practice is the key to success I believe. My approach to this tutoring is very practical by using practice and past MMI scenarios and seeing how my students respond to them, and then showing how I would respond. One of the key abilities that needs to be learnt in preparation for the MMI is 'thinking on the spot', which many students find difficult and can only be improved with practice.
In regards to classes, it is $60/hr and I tend to tutor at my own house. This year (2019) there will be limited places because I am going overseas, so please PM or email me ASAP to secure a place.
For those wondering, I received my ATAR results on the 16th December 2013, and received an email from Monash inviting me for an interview on 19th December 2013. I then had to accept the interview and allocate a time-slot for when I wanted to have the interview in early January.
In addition to this,
I did the University of Melbourne MMI interview for high achievers (those who get 99.90 or 99.95 are invited to this interview given that they have signed up for it prior to ATAR results release). Though I did not choose to attend the University of Melbourne Doctor of Medicine (MD) course in the end, I can help for this. I am currently also tutoring students for the University of Adelaide medical interviews.
