I am totally with you.

The scaling report there is just a guide. The scaled scores for raw scores of 40, 45, and 50 are straight from the VCAA scaling report, and everything else is an estimate, but even the ones in the VCAA scaling report are rounded to the nearest integer.

The scaled scores for everything that's not 40, 45, or 50 that are shown here look like they are calculated by linear interpolation i.e. under the assumption that the scaled score increases by some fixed amount every time the raw score goes up by one (with a possibly change when you hit 45 raw).

Would be very difficult to list all the numbers for all these subjects correctly, because the only way to do that is to find a person who finished VCE this year for each raw score within each subject. Actually, that's probably something AN could achieve with some of the more popular subjects.

Exactly right. I wrote about the linear interpolation process here.

One problem this year is that there are at least two people named 'Peter Nguyen' and two people named 'Michael Tran' from Melbourne High School, and their scores end up being combined in the list. Unfortunately there's nothing I can do about this.

It looks like the data on VCAA's website is better than what the Herald Sun displays - it includes info on unpublished scores, the subject names are correct (I don't know how the Herald Sun manages to mangle them so much) and middle names are included, so it's possible to distinguish between the students I mentioned in the last post. Unfortunately, they only provide PDFs, which are hard to parse. Still, I'll look into using this as my data source and update the archive accordingly.

Praise be to this database. It allowed me to stalk Vance Joy from another era.

What are you referring to about VCAA publishing info on unpublished scores? Are you just referring to statistics (e.g. number of 50s in all subjects), or the students themselves?

Yes - VCAA includes text like the following: '1 student with a score of 48 did not consent to the publication of their results'.

Yeah, his mum was/is an English teacher. Also got an identical Legal score to me.

I'm a bit of a crazed fan.
