I'm trying to toss up between UoM and Monash biomed courses and wanted to know exactly how the scholars program is different than the mainstream course. My ATAR was 99.20 so I should be able to get an offer in either, but I'm currently leaning towards UoM as I didn't apply for scholarships to Monash via VTAC :(. Many other people seem to be getting scholarships so I don't want to be constantly reminded of my negligence to apply by going to Monash as part of the reason for preferring UoM at the moment.

In full honesty, if you didn't get a scholarship for Melbourne, and you don't want to go to Monash because you didn't get a scholarship from them either, that's a pretty shitty reason. There are always more chances to apply for scholarships (and every year at the start of the year, Monash opens up applications again to apply for scholarships that didn't get handed out, so you could always apply after you get in and get a scholarship anyway), so don't let that be a deterrent.

Of course, if you DO have a scholarship for Melbourne, it's a completely different story.

As for the question asked, people in biomed scholars gets a scholarship just for being in the degree (so hey, scholarship anyway). Other than that, I don't think there's much difference between this and the regular biomed degree at Monash - but it may be similar to the old Science Scholars degree in that you didn't need to have done 24 units to get the degree (as long as you fulfilled all the requirements of it, still), as well as the nice common room available to those students (I've heard there's one for biomed advanced, not sure if it's also for biomed scholars). Having said that, are you sure it still exists? Because I can't seem to find it on the Monash website...

In regards to the Scholars Program for Biomedical Science at Monash, Is there any leeway if you do not meet a prerequisite? I have everything met except a Study Score of 40 in Chemistry (I received 37). Can I negotiate an offer with the Faculty or are my chances zero?
2015: VCE
2016-18: BBiomedSc (Monash)
2019-2022: DDS (Melb)

I'm really sorry, but it's 0. That's just the way the cookie crumbles with subject pre-reqs - they're a LOT stricter than ATAR requirements.

You can, however, try and transfer in if you really want to. You'll have to do pretty ace in your first year, but it should be possible.

Do you happen to know if they have an option that will let you finish the degree quicker and therefore apply to med quicker?
