How much would you say it costs per day to get from the northern suburbs (namely Bundoora) to Monash clayton via public transport? I'm in for a killer three years  :-[

$3.76 for a zone 1+2 daily concession. Less if you get a myki pass.

If you're careful about it, you may be able to travel in just zone 2, which will only cost you ~$1.

Zone 2 only = $1.30 for 2hrs, so $2.60 daily (concession).

You might be able to manage just zone 2 if you catch two buses rather than going into the city and doing a train.  Ugh, and I thought my 90 min commute bad :P  You should be going to latrobe lol.

So zone 1 is city and inner suburbs, zone 2 is slightly more outer suburbs - which includes Bundoora and Clayton.  If you catch a tram/bus in to the city and then catch a train out to Huntingdale and then a bus to Monash, that'll be both zones 1 and 2 which is more expensive; but if you just go on buses I'm pretty sure (?) that you'll just get zone 2.

If you travel once in the day, you get a 2hrly but if you travel twice you automatically get a daily that'll cover all the rest of your transport for the day free.

it wouldn't be much for domestic students (australia citizen/permanent resident/nz citizen/) as it's capped at $3.76 (but it is going up with CPI next year of 2-3% I think.

the cost of public transport shouldn't factor into your decision since at most it would only be a dollar or two difference.
