i was just wandering...cos i heard that if you don't do spec or a language u  don't get 99.95...so i was just wandering what is the highest people can get if say ur doing sciences?like I'm doing methods, literature, chem, physics, and accounting.  just curious... :)

assuming that you get a perfect study score for all of your subjects, you would end with a total score of 205 (also assuming that these subjects dont scale higher than 50). The cut off for 99.95 was 211-212 this year, thus, the highest ATAR, you can acheive would be in high 99s, however, not possible to get a 99.95.

50 in all of my subjects would have netted me 99.95 in 2012 but 99.90 in practically every other year.

yeah, a 205 aggregate would have gotten you a 99.80-99.85 last year

Even 6 50s wouldn't necessarily get you 99.95. In my year, you needed like 211.4 to get 99.95
2012
Mathematical Methods (50) Chinese SL (45~52)

2013
English Language (50) Chemistry (50) Specialist Mathematics (49~54.9) Physics (49) UMEP Physics (96%) ATAR 99.95

2014-2016: University of Melbourne, Bachelor of Science, Diploma in Mathematical Sciences (Applied Maths)

2017-2018: Master of Science (Applied Mathematics)

2019-2024: PhD, MIT (Applied Mathematics)

Using study scores, how do you find out the aggregate score? Is it just a matter of adding the study scores together?

yes, all your study scores added up = your aggregate score

yes, all your study scores added up = your aggregate score

My understanding was top 4 + 10% of remaining 1 or 2.

(For example, my aggregate was 199.5.)

EDIT: Yeah, as explained below.

Using study scores, how do you find out the aggregate score? Is it just a matter of adding the study scores together?

You add your scaled study score of your English subject and your scaled study scores for your next three highest scoring subjects together. If you did a 5th and 6th subject, you then add 10% of those scaled study scores onto it to get your aggregate.

So if you were to get raw 50's in 6 subjects (assuming none scaled over 50), you would get an aggregate of:
50 + 50 + 50 + 50 + 5 + 5 = 210, which in some years still wasn't enough for a 99.95

Then how does anyone get a 99.95? Do one of your subjects have to scale over 50? :o

yeah it does, which is why pretty much everyone who scores 99.95 did a language or spesh, or both

zsteve cut it pretty close... since 2011, only 2013 and 2015 would give him 99.95

it's not really the specific aggregate score that matters, it's how many people your aggregate beats. aggregate cut offs always vary due to changes in scaling, number of students etc.
