I'm doing revolutions in year 12, Russian and French and was wondering if anyone has any ways to approach the note taking like did you use any particular methods i.e. Cornell method or did your split your book up into different sections.

THANK YOU HEAPS IF YOU CAN HELP!!!!

Haven't done a hums (if that's the short hand way of spelling it) subject since year 10. It was history and my teacher(s) (both semesters) were "Die hard" lovers! Lot and lots and lots..... and lots of notes. Both recommended and one enforced the Cornell note method.

I was in his avid class too so I was experienced. This kept me from writing large slabs of unnecessary info. The information is separated into 'tabs' and a main ideas are placed to the margin side. Some classes you will need 2-3 ruled up pages but it's worth it because the information is separated into appropriate sections which will make revising easy.

The summary box was where I would put a 10-15 word gist of what was learned this lesson. If a refresher is needed a short and concise summary is a better jogger for your memory than a non constructed 2 page essay on notes. That was just my experience :)

I have some Russian revolution notes that summarize the events + facts + historians for every single event that happened for both AOS1 and AOS2 Russia.. for some reason i cant upload to site, so here they are. These were my personal notes.

Basically i listened in class and typed them out, i dont really know how to explain it.

blacksanta62 yeah I use the Cornell system for Legal Studies and find it effective I just wasn't too sure if it would work the same for Revolutions because of all the ideas, events, important leaders, historiography etc.but thanks for your input.

Darth_Pepe yeah that looks like something I may wish to do and thanks for your upload. Did you feel the way you structured  your notes helped you retain information better because you would have to obviously recount lots of what you wrote come the end of the week... cheers :)

It should work but for year 12 history you'll be expected to recall a lot more information than a year 10 student. Maybe a mind map would work better?? Done in your book during class while taking some relevant notes with the CN system and then compiling it into a fuller mind map  :)

Yeah i basically memorized them :) its a humanities subject that relies heavy on facts + dates. I wrote alot more than i should have, and at times its superflous but i remenbered the main ideas of each topic and that allowed to me to go into my sacs and exam confident

blacksanta62 yeah that sounds efficient with incorporating a mind map... I'll see what works best for me because I have only recently realized the actual jump from year 11 history which I did really well in (not to boast) to year 12 revs is soooo big but yeah I'm looking forward to the challenge. only regret I have is not choosing a math's based subject of any sorts and instead doing both literature and English (sigh).

Darth_Pepe sounds good! nah but really I like the way you structured you notes but I'll probably write them up in that sort of form just because I feel as those writing benefits me more.

Is it too late to change (I actually don't know :P) or do an additional subject (but revs and lit are so packed), maybe it's for the best since a math subject would add unneeded pressure. Just focus on doing well with the mix you have now :) I'm sure bridging courses can be done at uni anyway, if you ever need it. Hope all goes well  and have a great year :)
