Business Management preparation

Hi there. I will be going to year 12 this year. My question is what is the best method/way to study business management? The book has so much irrelevant crap so it becomes hard to tell what is important. What I am doing right now is that I set up the Key knowledge dot points and then try to figure out what fits in.
My aim is to get a 50 in Bus Man.

Please help!
Thanks in advance.

There are quite alot of similar threads in your sub forum, i suggest you look at them first ;). The general rule is to understand the concepts and applying them rather that rote memorising content :)

You should ask the Business Management God himself.

As for me, I haven't studied any thing for bus Man in the holidays, and still aiming for a 50 ( I haven't even done units 1/2 xD). In my opinion, Bus Man basically has general knowldge...

You know what? You're already doing my best and most important piece of advice: aim for a 50. That's my one big regret with BusMan. I did Business in Year 11, and I really had no idea what to expect, being my first 3/4 and all (did you do one last year?). I had an arbitrary aim of 40 at the start of the year, because that seemed to be the thing to do.

I worked relatively hard during the year but honestly, the one thing holding me back from a 50 was self belief. The belief to push myself harder, work a little smarter, and absolutely maximise my ability. I have no doubt now that I have the capability to score that highly, just not necessarily the experience. A few weeks before exams, my school also told me that the highest I could possibly score was a 42. I ended up with a 48, so never stop believing in yourself.

Anyway, as for actual preparation, I don't think you really need to do too much at this stage. I think working off the study design (as you seem to be with the key knowledge dot points) is a great idea, because everything else is, as you say, ultimately irrelevant. Here are some other ideas:

  • Start to work out how you're going to structure your notes or whatever. I had three exercise books: one for class notes, one for revision notes, and one for definitions. It worked a treat for me; the definition book was a lifesaver come exams.
  • Read over the first few chapters of your textbook, but actually read it. Make notes. Make summaries. Summarise the summaries.

  • Scout out around the internet for relevant resources that you might like to use throughout the year. This, for example, only includes relevant information for BusMan 3/4.

There are quite alot of similar threads in your sub forum, i suggest you look at them first ;). The general rule is to understand the concepts and applying them rather that rote memorising content :)

True. Although, to go against what I actually advise, I found rote learning relatively effective for definitions.

You should ask the Business Management God himself.

Yeah, do speak to Callum - he's a lot more qualified to speak about Business than I am.

To respond to that second point, though, I'd be hesitant to consider Business just 'general knowledge'. Granted, you don't need to know complex formulae, but that's not to say that you'll just be able to cruise through the entire year. It takes a lot of hard work to score highly in this subject, because it's quite competitive at the top.

Best of luck to all. :)

Don't be singular in your approach.
Once you have mastered the mind it really is possible. You couldn't care less avbout how the others fall behind as they get stuck in their negative views. Comfort in chaos
