hey guys!
im currently in yr 12 and next year i aspire to attend university at Monash through the Monash Guarantee (under-represented school category).
i know it's really early in the year to think about it, but how do i apply? i read on the Monash site that I need to submit a SEAS and VTAC scholarship application but how would I go about doing this? do i need to notify my school or monash directly?
i dont know much about tertiary-related stuff so i'm immensely grateful for any assistance
.
Dont worry about it. Basically around August (i think) SEAS and VTAC will open up. So what will happen is you will have a list of preferred courses, in this list there wont be any scholarships, just the course itself. Then you can apply for SEAS and Scholarships, which are both different categories. What will happen is under SEAS, you will apply for category 1 (under represented schools).
Keep in mind that the Monash Guarantee under the category of under represented school is not concrete. The Monash Guarantee mentions this and i quote "If you attend one of these schools and achieve the required ATAR, you will be eligible for the Monash Guarantee. If you miss out on that, you will still be eligible for SEAS bonuses". Which means there is a chance you might not get it.
This is significant because if you are aiming for Law (94) or Med (94 and an allright UMAT) then you might be shocked that you didnt receive an offer if you did get 94, because SEAS bonuses will lift your ATAR to maybe 96-97, but entry for those courses are 98+. I was at an under-represented school and half the people did not get the Monash Guarantee because it was a chance, the only ones who did it get were the ones who applied for category 3 as well (from the top of my head thats financial difficulty).
The scholarship is the same, just apply for scholarships under the under-represented schools.
The under-represented schools is a weird thing and Monash understands that because sometimes its not that the schools dont get high ATARs to get in, they sometimes choose not to go. Thats the case at my school were we were under-represented at
every university except for Melbourne. What was happening was half our school wasnt going to uni because of extremely low marks, however the top half of our cohort did achieve 90+ and all choose Melb, which made us under-represented at Monash. Keep in mind our average study score is about 29 or so, i find it weird that we werent under-represented at Melb.
Anyway just keep in mind theres a chance you dont get the Monash Gurantee so try your best, instead of aiming for the monash gurantee atar, aim for the normal atar requierement

hard work will pay off.
