Hi again!

Thank you for your reply to my earlier question- I think I forgot to reply to it  :( but it was very appreciated
I was wondering how to adapt my story to the rubric statement which states discoveries can be spiritual. I think I have the other parts of the elective down somewhat, but was wondering what bostes (or nesa) means by spiritual? Is it the same as a self-discovery?

Thank you  :)

Hey! You are most welcome :) I think spiritual is a pretty broad term tbh - I associate it with world view, understandings of higher power, etc. For example, a story where a character comes to terms with their path in life being steered in a new direction, and that this is okay - That is a 'spiritual' discovery. Ditto for anything related to any sort of interaction or experience with religion or God. It really is quite a broad thing! :)

Guys,

I have no idea how to study. I feel like I've just forgotten everything. How did you study for Advanced? Did you memorise paragraphs for different  syllabus points?? I don't know what to do haha

Thanks,

Mary
Hey!
I did the HSC last year (2017) and my 10 units were English Advanced, English Extension 1, English Extension 2, Legal Studies, Maths and Studies of Religion 2. I achieved my ATAR aim of over 90!

I loved tutoring and running essay writing workshops (privately and at InFlow Education) so much that I decided to study a Bachelor of Secondary Education, majoring in English and minoring in Maths!

If you're thinking about tutoring, let me know x

Thank you so much.

With Module B, as you could get asked on any speech/poem/etc, would it be better to link texts as you write your notes (e.g. many of the speeches are connected by how they address national identity) and I guess in a way kind of match the texts before you go into the exam? I like pre-preparing my responses and I have no clue how to do that for this particular module  :-\

Hello!
English is really stressing me out, and every time I work on it I am always spending countless hours, and achieving very little. And with holidays coming to an end it is really getting to me.
I need advice on how to approach studying for English more efficiently, and actually accomplishing something with my time.
TIA

Hey! When I did Module B for speeches, I did notes on each of them separately (quotes, techniques, etc). Then I had some dedicated tables linking each speech by theme, so I was prepared for if something was specified, or for any sort of thematic question. Ultimately, you do want to have ideas of how the speeches can be linked, but you can't prepare for every scenario. Instead, understand your speeches, know how they link to each other, and practice using them in sample responses ;D

Hey Winston!! This is a really big question, what specifically are you finding most troublesome in English? Any particular sections or concepts that are troubling you? What are you doing to work on English right now? Just trying to suss out your situation! ;D

Right now I'm looking to finish notes on Mod C (Landscapes), and my creative. After this I plan to touch up on notes for other modules, and then revise+memorise. In the past, I don't seem to have much trouble memorising (although I do take longer than some of my peers), but just getting the notes done really takes up a lot of my time. My creative also is using a lot of my time, and I hope I can post that soon when it's done.

Hello, what are some sophisticated related texts for AOS Discovery along with the prescribed text, The Tempest? Is it better to have 2 ORTs or is that a waste of time? Thank you. :)

Hey, it's me again. So sorry for so many questions, I'm just in the process of finalising my notes :/
a) For those who have done Richard III/LFR, I was wondering how to answer a question about how the texts address the transient nature of power.
I was thinking a paragraph about how those disempowered throughout the play usually are in opposition to the dominant values of the composers' time (e.g. Richard's demise confirmed the didactisms of the Elizabethan audience) and another about how by struggling for power, the characters lose more of their humanity?
b) What do the markers mean by individual recognition (a HSC question for Mod A a couple of years back)? Is it the individual's ability to control their  own doings vs Providential actions pre-destining one's choices? Or is it more about how the characters acknowledge their own identity (e.g. Richard's "I am determined to prove a villain")

Thank you so much!

I have had an English Question I wanted to ask. When preparing for trials, I tend to write a lot of essays in practice to improve, however, every time I complete an essay, I have no idea what mark I am around or what I am getting. How would you know if something is well written, because I may fall into the trap of continually practising terrible essays?

Hey I was just wondering how to go about it (and if its a good idea) to use a TV show as a related text for Mod C (House of Cards for BNW). Some people said it was a good idea to just use a few episodes. What do you think?

Thanks!

You need to have 2 ORTs just in case, however it is more likely you will be asked to specify only ONE. The two I've chosen are Heart Of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, as it fits well because of the colonisation, time and nature themes, and Interstellar by Christopher Nolan. This works because of the same themes.

Hope this helps!

I think you are on the right track! Like, you are doing the rights things, getting your content summarised and working on honing prepared pieces. I suppose my biggest piece of advice right now would be not to focus on making notes perfect - They'll never be perfect. Focus on getting a set good enough to help you start doing practice papers - Practice of some form should be priority! ;D
