Could soemone explain the concept of audience to me?

I started media in 3/4 and I'm kind of behind with some of the terminology. I'm assuming, when you talk about the audience of a work you're talking about demographic. To be honest, I have no idea how you'd work out what the audience of a film is, it's so subjective.

In the context of Unit 3, AOS 1 (narrative), audience typically refers to the group of people the media is primarily aimed at.
This can include gender, age, location, interests etc.
For example, the target audience of 'Scott Pilgrim vs. the World' would be teenagers and twentysomethings of both genders, though particularly male, living in the Western world with an interest in music, gaming and pop culture.
You may feel like you're stereotyping or generalising, but that is the point - you should aim to find what group of people would generally find the media appealing or interesting
