Am I doomed?

Hey guys!

So I've just completed my first SAC and I'm having mixed feelings about it. I got my tests results back (I know they don't count but still) and I'm feeling quite stressed about how I'm going to improve in this subject. I picked up Bio 3/4 this year without completing unit 1/2 and I feel disadvantaged because I'm not used to the marking schemes and how heavily content based the subject is.

I love Biology but I'm not feeling confident about how I'm going to excel in this subject...
I'm aiming for at least a 40 but I'm not sure whether it's achievable considering the marks I'm getting...  :-\

Just keep studying hard (just don't slack off...), and I am sure you will be able to achieve you target :)

You're only as doomed as you tell yourself you are.

erm buddy... your sacs do count.

And I know someone who got a 50 in chemistry in spite of the fact they got 60% on 1 sac ( a major sac )

And don't use the excuse of being disadvantaged of not doing 1/2 bio. You'll use that excuse throughout the whole year and it'll get in the way of your dreams. Take responsibility for your learning. If you don't know the marking schemes then go look at them.

And being disadvantaged due to how content heavy a subject is is not a disadvantage... it's content heavy for everyone why is it that you're the only one disadvantaged?

So tldr dont make excuses go study learn from your mistakes eat your veggies kiss your mum and you'll reach your dreams if ou work towards it

I got 13/25 in my first Further Maths SAC last year but I still managed to get over 40 for Further,
Let this be a lesson to motivate you to try even harder for the next sac :))
2015 (completed) :
Business Management
Further Maths
---------
2016 (currently suffering) :
Chemistry [40+]
English [ 40+ ]
Biology [ 45+ ]
Maths Methods CAS [30+]
---------
2017 : (hopefully) Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)

Since everyone is being so honest I got my result back for my sac today. While doing it on Friday I didn't get to answer all the questions because of time running out (These 3 questions were worth 2 marks each :0) and I lost a further 7 marks for various reasons such as presentation (rushed), silly mistakes (rushed) and 2 questions which didn't give enough explaination (how the experiment could be improved etc). Knew when I walked out I botched it and as a result I only got 12/25 :(. Now to the real question, what chance do I have of scoring above 40?

I identified the pros and cons of my work and I'm still movitated to do well but the Sacs contribution of 40% (?) scares me a bit. Can anyone lend personal experiences which will let me see the bigger picture about what this will do to my study score?

OK first I think you really need to work on your time management. I don't think I have to explain why.
So don't worry about whether you can get 40+ (we dont know... but most likely yes you can there is no reason as to why not)
But how bout spending this time working on your time management fam! Ya feel?

dont stress too much! i only got 60% in my first bio sac so i know just how you feel. just aim to learn from your mistakes and implement strategies to achieve full marks in your next sac  :) sacs are crucial in terms of cohort ranking, and that they do make up part of your study score. however my teacher last year said that the ability to get a high study score mainly comes from your exam. also, performing well on exam day will potentially scale your sac marks up.

from discussing my sacs with my bio teacher and gaining time management through practice questions, i managed to get around 90% in my sacs by the end of the year  :) from my experience, id say dont let your confidence be undermined- you got this!!

I feel ya. Time management was great up until one particular question where I spent a good 10-15 mins on drawing a graph with the results. Then I looked at the clock and saw I only had 25 mins left.

Went and made a list of all the pros and cons of my first prac sac since term 3 2015, felt good to reflect and will definetely not be making any of these "too much time spent on questions" mistakes. Ironically I only got 2 out of 2 1/2 :p.  Lost the mark because my x axis scale wasn't accurate but I'll make sure that doesn't happen next time.

Also I have to note that I knew all the content on the SAC after I saw what the prac was.

Time management was off on Friday, this normally doesn't happen to me, kinda like the Warriors @ trailblazers, anyone watch that disaster? Not trying to derail the thread so please don't report me.

Thanks for the personal anecdote, really identifies with how I'm feeling right now. Since it's appeared twice I will really look at my time management skills, despite my confidence, because hey, everyone here is helping me not breaking me.

I was averaging something around that last year so for my first SAC to be in the high 40s, yeah, lol. Coincidentally, I always say "you got this!" to others who need the extra push of motivation so it's nice to hear it once in a while, it really works.

Ahh, it's always this time of year when these threads pop up.
Long story short, you aren't at all doomed...just keep putting in your best from now and the results will speak for themselves. I know countless examples of people in your situation who ended up getting perfect study scores, no point in me writing stories here, just take my word for it mate :)
