To everyone who got in (me included): I was too impatient to wait for info night so here is the link to the BYOD Multi-Device Program at JMSS. I'll see those who got in at the Information Night on the 6th of October. https://sites.google.com/a/jmss.vic.edu.au/multi-device-program/home

If someone is not eligible to do methods 1/2 at Monash in year 10. Does that mean that they can do 1/2 in year 11 then 2/3 in year 12? Also, if one is eligible to do methods in year 10...What do they do in year 12 as they would've already finished methods 3/4 in year 11? How does each make a difference to ones ATAR?

Yeah, if you do 1/2 maths methods in Year 10 you go on to complete 3/4 maths methods in Year 11. By completing a unit 3/4 subject in Year 11, you will have 6 subjects count towards your ATAR instead of just 5 subjects, which is the amount of subjects that you complete in Year 12 as you need to drop a subject from Year 11 in order to have study periods. Btw, 6 subjects is the max amount of subjects that will count towards your ATAR so even though u complete 7 by the end of year 12 (by doing 2 3/4s in Year 11), only your highest 6 subjects with the best study scores will count.

Which 3/4 subjects does Monash offer in year 12? Is it just physics and maths? And can you do a language that's not French and jap in year 10 like Chinese so you can do its 3/4 in year 11? What is the process of doing that? Does Monash allow its students to do 3/4 biology in year 11 and skip 1/2 biology because is actually not compulsory?

Do you mean what 3/4s they offer for Year 11s? There's actually quite a lot. Bio, psychology, physics, methods, geography, history, extended investigation, languages etc. Not chemistry though unless you're super smart :)

If you want to do Chinese in Yr 11, you'll have to do it through an external school but you'll get free periods for it at JMSS.

Hi guys,
I just have some doubts about the tech for next year. Does anyone know how often the secondary device is used? And can it be your phone?
Thanks :)

Secondary devices are either a tablet or a phone. Normally aren't used but definitely useful when your laptop dies on the last period or if there's an app the teachers want you to use. But yeah, phones work c:

Like chooby said above, it's either tablet or a phone though up to your discretion on how much you use it.
Personally, I used my secondary device (iPad) quite a bit at JMSS (not so much for gaming :P )

Primarily, laptop was for things like Emerging Tech, Issues and English whilst iPad was for Maths/Science since it was more convenient to have textbooks on the iPad ready to view and spending time doing questions and writing in a workbook during VCE. This was also to conserve battery life of my laptop too since over three years my laptop battery declined in power retention like any other laptop out there..
Likewise, if you needed to take photos of the whiteboard etc. then iPad would come in handy too (didn't want school work on my phone so left that out of the equation).

What do you do in Emerging Tech? Because I have chosen to do French, therefore I can't do it. Is it very important?

I'll probably leave chooby or somebody more recent to answer (may have changed since I did it) but basically ET's basically a subject which makes you 'embrace' the use of technology through programs like Scribble and Cellular and create something using those platform (leads on quite well to Algorithmics if you intend to do it since Algorithmics uses a similar program to those above) as well as something to do with technology in the 21st century etc. (been a while so can't remember if all of that is correct :P )

Personally, I'd base it off doing French or ET whether I'm going to do the subject in VCE (no harm in choosing one over the other imo - can't recall what I've learnt from ET has been helpful or not but can't say anything about French since I never did it either).

Emerging tech is a subject most year 10's absolutely hated because of the random bits of work we had to do, the long assignments and, if I might add, the teachers LMAOOOOOOOO.
Anyways, this year we covered Cellular, Knights and Knaves (puzzles)(boolean algebra), Coding languages (Python) and visual IT design (putting data sets together in a visual presentation).
If any of this interests you or may be useful, go ahead and do it. At the end you do end up learning quite a lot, many students just find it a struggle because the work load is high (many assignments) and theres lots of new learning and concepts that aren't very familiar to a lot of people.

I'm not sure if it is officially, but nobody really cares either way. School captain never used it in 2016. You can buy mine for cheapsies though if you want ;)
Why listen to my advice for free when you can pay for it: Methods/Specialist/Chemistry/Physics tutoring

I'm doing the test next year, can anyone tell me what year level's maths and science is going to be in the year 10 entrance exam?
Never reject an idea, dream or goal simply because it will be hard work. Success rarely comes without it.
