If you're doing CSLA, you should probably choose a topic which is more "advanced".
I was told that "generic" topics such as mahjong, peking opera, food etc are more CSL topics? I know quite a few CSLA students picking topics out of 三国, but only do that if you actually take an interest in it or are very familiar with the stories in it.
Tea is seems to be a common topic but i think its more often done by CSL students?
I'm doing CSL and I initially picked out a few topics, but my teacher said they were leaning towards CSLA topics such as:
- 青花瓷 (chinese porcelain)
- 刀功夫
- 孝庄 (a famous empress dowager during the Qing Dynasty)
- 芈月 (Qin Shi Huang's... grandmother i think? who the terracotta warriors were supposedly made for. She was also one of the most influential female figures in ancient china, or so they say)
- Myths of the Terracotta warriors (my tutor said that there are far too many people who do Qin Shi Huang or the Terracotta warriors as a detailed study topic, but narrowing it down to the myths gives your topic depth and will interest the examiners... although not sure if this topic is CSL or CSLA)
However, I'm doing one a famous chinese physician during the Han dynasty because I'm interested in chinese medicinal treatments.
