Look it really depends on the subject, every subject has different weightings on the GA's which differs from year to year.

There's high, medium and low A+'s and A's so it really depends on the actual percentage mark and subject.

it does!

If you can achieve an A average in your exam you'll be at the 37 mark. If you average a low A+ you'll just have come into the 40's and then if you get a decent A+ you'll be at 43+ and then as you come across 45 you have done that well that if someone beats you by say 1 mark or so it will mean you getting a lower study score.

I wasn't lucky enough to get any 40's (I did get two 39's, one 37, a 33 and a 30).

I am happily study my bachelor of science degree (planning to major in physics or maths) and then plan to go onto master of science. This was my first preference and I believe that people have this belief that your worth is what ENTER you got and what you are studying.

My advice is to not get too paranoid about this (easy said than done) and do your best with the exams. In the exam period block out study scores and ENTER (this time you spend thinking about these is time you loose of studying - again this is easy said than done). The exam period goes that fast that once you finish your last exam you will be looking at people you have seen for the past 6 years and realise that you'll never see (ALL of) them again.

The funny part is that it only seems like yesterday that I was at school and now I only have 5 weeks left of my first year at uni (yes my exams are at the same time as yours).

I must make a confession though: "I wish I had of had a different attitude to english (i.e. where I got the 30)"

VCE follows the same thing as finance: "You never get a free lunch", People who think I only need this means if I slack off I can get what I want (it doesn't work that way).

Mainly because 40+s are generally not a result of luck?

Eh, I'd be a happy chappy with study scores in the 30s. I'd be wetting myself with glee if I got in the 40s lol.
But yes, this marking seems so... tight. *Shudders*

Its a figure of speech!!!

I know luck doesn't come into getting 40+
