Rank one in a weak cohort or Rank last in a strong cohort?

So I'm pretty confused about this whole thing, is it better to be rank one in a weak cohort or rank last in a strong cohort?

Using Chinese as an example, is it better if I go to a crap school, but is rank one or go a good school with smart kids, but I'm ranked last?

And also, say for example I do extremely well for all my SACs and get ranked as number 1, does that mean I can just slack off for the exams because rank 1 will just end up taking the highest exam mark??

rank 1 in a weak cohort but not for the reasons you have stated. Although technically neither should have any impact if in the weak cohort you get an exam mark better that everyone else and in the strong cohort you get the lowest exam mark.

Your exam mark remains your own as its the one thing that is standardised across the state.
