QM2 vs Introductory Econometrics

Long story short: I'm a first year Bachelor of Commerce student planning to major in accounting and finance. Apparently in second year you get a choice to do QM2 or Introductory econometrics to satisfy the mathematical requirements for the degree. Is there anyone that can provide me with an insight of the differences between the two and why I would choose one over the other? Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated!

I think if you search the forums you'll probably find a fair bit of information about this choice because literally every comm student wonders the same thing.

In my review of QM2 I touched on it I think. QM2 is more of a breadth of knowledge whereas intro econ is more depth (and mainly into regression). I did QM2 and was pretty happy with my choice, I looked at a friends IE assignment and it looked harder than my QM2 assignments. I have no idea however of the relative difficulty so it's completely up to you.

If you think that you might want to continue on with Econometrics in 3rd year (for instance, if you wanted to postgrad studies in Finance where 3rd year metrics is a pre-requisite), pick Introductory Econometrics. If you're sure that you wouldn't want to continue on with it, there's nothing wrong with just doing QM2.

I chose QM2 and my best friend chose Econ and in the end my grade was a bit higher so I'd say QM2 is easier but not by much. Like the others have said, choose Econ if you love/are good at regression, or if you plan on doing Finance or even Economics postgrad.
