Hey guys! I received an interview to JMSS today for the 10th of August and I was wondering what to expect and how to prepare. What kind of awards should I take to the interview and how old can they be? What is the interview format? What could be questions I get asked? Any advice would be highly appreciated.
Thankyou
hey! i recently had my interview for year 11 entry on the 22nd. i personally feel that there is no serious preparation required but going through a couple of example questions helps. The advice i got from my dad(and i found this very useful) is that to think before you answer(they usually don't mind if you take a while to answer), use common sense, be confident, speak clearly and always smile.
I found a couple of example questions:
What will you miss about your old school if you come here?
Why should you come here?
What do you want to be when you grow up?
What sort of science are you interested in?
As for the awards, take awards that are science or maths related or show your academic achievement. i took my awards from maths and science comps, high achievers awards and olympiad distinction awards. i even took my science state level comp credit award from grade 2 and 3. if you do take old awards, you can convey that you've been interested in science since a very young age. which does impress the interviewers and increases the chances of selection. photocopy all awards and reports as they will not return them to you. i also took my original awards in a display folder, just in case they wanted to look at the awards in color.
I was sooo nervous before the interview, but when it actually starts, you'll be fine
Take deep breaths, be well prepared and confident, have a good breakfast, and Good Luck!
