too late to start studying for japanese exam?
ive done about 2 prac exams so far, but that was two weeks ago. havent done any jap since due to other exams

also to people who have done jap, and achieved 33+ what preparation did you do? What do i roughly need for a 34 raw study score? In unit 3 i was getting around 70%, then unit 4 i got 88%.

Hard to say because it depends on your place within the class etc.
Rather than what you need to do, I'd focus on what you can do. If you can set aside two hours a day, do a practice exam every day. If you can't, do one every couple of days.
Look at the exam reports and see in which parts people do the worst, and focus on those parts especially. Also, make sure you assess what you are lacking in as well so you can put emphasis on that. Many people find the listening sections difficult - try doing a few rounds of dictation every day.
If anything, I would just suggest for you to try and immerse yourself in as much Japanese as possible. It might be hard, especially if you still have other subjects on the side, but the more you can do, obviously the better you'll be.
Sometimes you make choices, and sometimes choices make you.

Exam is always the most important in terms of your final study score. SACs only matter for ranking, if you beat the student ranked No.1 in your school SACs in your exam then you get his SAC marks (at least that's how it worked back when I was doing VCE).

In terms of prep, it's good to keep writing various styles of essays everyday. Cut down your time spent writing essays to give you more time elsewhere. Keep watching japanese drama, try without the subs if you can too and see how you go (watching with Japanese subs too is great practice!)
Practice the reading comprehension in japanese section. The last questions often require you to summarise the author's main point. Practice expressing the same content in different ways. You could also use Lang-8 to get people to correct your essays.

Good luck!

Thank you so much for this!!I highly doubt i'll beat the number one rank considering he is half japanese.. haha. But i will be doing my best that's for sure.
Yeah i agree, japanese section of reading comprehension is where people lose most marks because they just copy the exact wording- so need to work on re-wording answers.
I've watched a couple of Japanese drama's, sometimes it is really hard to follow though. Any shows in particular that would help?

Hi! For the Japanese exams, the essay topics they could ask seem open ended, and I'm unsure of what to practice writing! What topics would someone recommend I revise in detail for the writing section of the exam? Like what topics seem to always come up? Environment? Technology? Please help!

Thank you

Here's a few I always recommend: Dragon Zakura https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0FIScL-u74&index=11&list=PL5AqHdASUzW38QNiD5ydbierFb_kb4LwO or Nihonjin no Shiranai Nihongo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iSSBVEFwDc (japanese subs!).

Glad to hear you're confident in your performance! No worries!

Also, just as a side note, I wonder if writing out Japanese or even JPN is better than 'Jap'? Considering it's a derogatory term, I think it's best not to throw it around (even though it was purely for convenience) ;) Obviously not just you but yeah.
