Corporate Culture
If you still need help, official corporate culture is the written culture which can be found in the business' slogan, policies or objectives. Real corporate culture is the unwritten or informal rules that guide how people in a business behave. This can be the way in which employees dress.
Lawrence and Nohria Four Drives
States the four drives which define how humans behave and employee motivation in a business. There are four drives.
The drive to learn
- Satisfy curiosity and to learn new skills
- Eg. provide employees with training
The drive to bond
- Need to form relationship
- Eg. Empower employees and give them input into decision making
The drive to acquire
- Own material goods and the need for status
- Eg. Giving the opportunity for promotion
The drive to defend
- Only active in the face of threat
- the desire to remove threats to our safety and security
- protect what we regard as ‘ours’.
- Eg. If job security is in threat, contracts can be adjusted to assure job security.
- Satisfying all drives achieves satisfaction
Maslow's hierarchy of needs
- Previous level must be completed before next one plays into affect
- Achieving all levels takes a long time
- Achieve the levels achieves motivation
Physiological Needs:
Basic needs such as food, water and shelter.
Safety and Security:
Job security and safe working conditions
Social Needs:
Relationship of employees to others.
Esteem Needs:
Recognition of progress and promotions.
Self-actualisation:
Creative job, opportunity of advancement.
