No background experience in Chinese SL

I think I want to do Chinese SL Units 3/4 but do not think I would be able to get an average study score let alone a good one.  I really enjoy Chinese but I have no previous background in it.  Year 7 was my first year learning the language and no one in my family knows any Chinese.  In my class, all of us are at about the same level but they do not have any more experience than I do.  Does anyone have an idea about what study score I could expect if I work hard or any suggestions about what I should do to improve my Chinese?

I'd say it would be borderline impossible to get raw 40+. If you put a lot of effort in 35 could be achievable, which still scales up considerably.
