The puzzle may change, but the one I did was do-able I guess. I would say that it's a logic puzzle.

Edit: Ugh, is it bad if they only wrote notes on your accomplishments, and not your personality or aspirations for the future?

that is bad. did you have a lot of accomplishments? either way, if they took you in based only on the former, then I guess they're missing out.  ???

Fortunately, my resume was pretty good and I have a lot of accomplishments. But a good chunk of the interview was me talking about my personality, qualities and aspiration for the future. I talked about the career I wanted to pursue in the future (chemical engineering) and gave examples of more efficient, effective invention ideas. The lady was just sitting there, looking at me, nodding at some parts - she didn't really take any notes. The only time she took notes was when she looked through my portfolio.

Ugh, I'm not sure if this is how they normally run interviews, but I find this pretty disrespectful. You have a student that has this passion for science and technology, and has aspirations in solving several of society and the environment's issues. Yet you just stare blankly at them, not bothering to write any notes or add any comments.

JMSS is an awesome school - it's an awesome community. I've respected this school for a long time. I'm just extremely deflated about how I was treated during the interviews. It's understandable how interviewing a bunch of students gets really exhausting, but at least try to give a fair opportunity all the applicants.

I would be really pissed off as well, and that happened to my when I was sitting in the exam for the selective high school. There was a female supervisor, who saw me doing my working out in the booklet, was like, "Can you please waste a minute rubbing out all your working out?" WASTE??!! That really pissed me off, and I ended up not being able to shade all other bubbles on the answer sheet. I also put my hand up to ask questions, but no one came to me. The supervisors were even close enough to see me, but they didn't even come to me! The host, Sam, was like, "Blah blah blah blah. Thank you for asking questions." ASKING QUESTIONS?? I tried to, but no one came to me! Therefore, the result was that I didn't get into the selective high school. Sorry for the anger, but that was how I actually felt.

Wow, this kind of behaviour is appalling. The thing that sucks is that we will never receive compensation for these unfortunate events. We're just students among a larger group of more students. They don't really care about that one individual. Even if you really want to go to this school, it doesn't matter to them because you're just one student out of many. They have the power to accept and reject students.

Don't be nervous. The puzzles will have "right answers". You just have to use your time effectively to find those answers.

That sounds terrible. This has really diminished my expectations of the interview and the school as well. You sound like you would really fit in at JM Shadestache, you're so passionate about science and I really admire that. It would be a crime if they didn't take you.
Not sure how to feel about my interview on Wednesday. I'm pretty sure I'm one of the last people there.  :(

will the puzzles be kinda like ones you would find in numerical reasoning? or do they involve real life situations, sorry if I'm being annoying haha :P

Nah, please don't diminish your expectations of the interview and the school. I'm pretty sure it was just bad luck for me. I'm sure everyone else was able to do well. Either:
• I don't know how JMSS interviews work
• My interviewer had a bad day
• My interviewer doesn't like me and what I have to offer :')

will the puzzles be kinda like ones you would find in numerical reasoning? or do they involve real life situations, sorry if I'm being annoying haha :P

Ahah, I think I've given out too much detail about the interview and the puzzles.
Just chill for the rest of the night. Sing or play the guitar if you have too :PP
I'm sure you'll be fine!

Thanks for the support guys. I felt so crap after the interviews and I'm glad I was able to express my opinions and give insight about my experiences.
It doesn't change what has happened, but hey, what can I do? Right now, I'm just hoping that my resume and the 3% rule will help me get in :')

Just because things went bad for me won't mean that it'll go bad for you. So please don't be worried or scared by what happened with me.
Just chill out for the rest of the night and don't worry so much about the puzzles. I'm sure you guys will have a fun team to work with and you'll manage to solve whatever puzzles they give you. Whatever happens, happens.
Be sure to tell me about your experiences :')

Hi all, been reading through and there seems to be a lot of great info here, thanks for sharing. Just thought I should ask, for everyone that has already done their interviews, how did you organise your portfolio? Did you just print off some of your awards and chuck them in a folder? I think that's what I'll be doing. Hopefully I see some of you on Wednesday!

Hey, glad you decided to make an account and join in :PP

I printed out my Year 8 Semester 2 and Year 9 Semester 1 reports.
I also photocopied a bunch of academic awards and other awards that show my participation and achievement in extracurricular activities.
Make sure that you don't bring the original copy because they take everything at the end.

You're supposed to "chuck them" into a clear, plastic sheet protector and not a folder.
