ANNOUNCEMENT - AN'S 2017 ANALYSING ARGUMENT CLUB

As some of you will have noticed, during 2016, literally lauren and heidi collaboratively ran the ATARNotes Language Analysis Club. The aim of it was basically to enable 2016's cohort to keep their language analysis skills fresh throughout the year in nice, manageable chunks by writing an analysis on selected letter(s) to the editor and give feedback.

Since then, there was hope that there'd be some sort of 2017 equivalent but up til now there hadn't been anything of the sort running. Anyway:

Can I have a drumroll please?

Due to popular demand (and, in a desperate attempt to stop seeing messages inquiring about if I knew the AN's LA thing was running this year - soz fam but if I have to see another one of those messages, I might have nightmares), I'd like to announce that I'm going to be (attempting) to run something similar for all you lucky 2017'ers.

Alright, you can start celebrating now.

So, how’s this going to work for me?

Basically:

1. Every other Monday, I’ll do my best to post a new thread with *something* for you to analyse.
2. You’ll write a short analysis and post it in that thread.
3. You’ll give feedback on one other person’s analysis (look, if you wanna do more than one feedback though, go crazy) in the thread.
4. I’ll add links to people’s pieces and feedback to Compilation of weekly material, pieces and feedback.

Essentially, no matter where you’re at with language analysis, this is your chance to improve drastically throughout the year by working together consistently – so that come exam time, AN is going to screw up the bell curves by absolutely smashing LA ;)

Will this help me smash Analysing Argument/my SAC/my exam/whatever?

Look I'm not saying that if you join this club, you'll get a 50 study score without needing to put in any work. Cos trust me mate, it's easy to say that you'll contribute every week but when SACs are looming over your head, and you have a million and one pieces of homework, it's not easy. However, the more you contribute to this, the more you gain out of it. Write essays, give feedback, learn from each other. Honestly, I can't stress the benefits of giving of feedback enough; I always felt like I gained so much from giving feedback because it forces you to step into the shoes of an assessor which then means that you'll start seeing common mistakes that you and other students are making so that you know to avoid them. I would highly recommend the LA Club and this isn't just because I was a weekly contributor to it and well... if you scroll down to my sig, I think I did okay in English.

For more info on the Language Analysis Club (and why you should contribute), please refer to the info provided at the start of last year re: the LA club: https://atarnotes.com/forum/index.php?topic=164754.0#quickreply

So, grab your mate, grab your language analysis hats and get ready for some language analysis.

See you next Monday!

I'm super excited about this happening again this year, and there's no one better than HLS to run it!

Small and consistent writing and feedback-giving will make all the difference in the world to your skills and confidence.  I *highly* recommend you help yourself by joining in!
