I've been really down lately. Got a C+ for first English SAC, is a 38-40 study score possible?
I also got D+ and B+ on the first two pracs for Chem, but aced the first SAC. I don't want to come across as naïve but I'm wondering what are my chances for a 95-97 ATAR?

In NSW so didn't do SAC's, but I got like ~55% for one of my half yearly exams in Maths Extension 1 (forget the mark but it was thereabouts. Ended up with a 48/50 (it works a little differently to the VCE system, but it is a very good result here too, ahaha) and got a 99.80 ATAR. Definitely don't stress!! A few less than ideal results is inevitable and won't kill your chances if you work really hard to improve ;D

Ps - Welcome to the forums! ;D

As a fellow MHS student I'll chip in. I'm pretty sure our SACs scale since we're in a strong cohort, so a C+ becomes a B and a B becomes a B+. So, if you average A for the rest of your SACs then 38-40 is definitely possible since the average English study score at MHS is about 38 and the average letter grade is about a B+. But, I'm wondering how you got two English grades back, since we've only finished the argument analysis SAC and we're doing the creative oral presentations now and I didn't think that teachers gave grades back until we all finished our creative orals. Also, I'm pretty sure that only the chemistry fuels SAC contributes towards our grades, so any other class tests don't matter, but it's still good to study for them. A 95 to 97 atar at MHS is definitely possible if you maintain above average marks throughout your subjects, since the median atar at our school about 95. So, aim to get about A in all your subjects from now on and you can definitely get that atar, provided you do decently in the exams.

I'd don't have an ATAR yet, but

I did do biology last year and got a study score of 45 despite getting 50% in one of my SACs, so there is always hope if you are willing to work hard and improve.

If it's any consolation, I reckon a lot of people will be feeling similarly!

The 38-40 study score is absolutely still possible for English; as is the 95-97 ATAR. :) I think the best thing to do from here would be to work out why it is you're not so happy with your scores thus far. After all, when you know the issue, the issue is much easier to address. ;D

Ineffective studying? Time management? Lack of motivation?

And welcome to the forums, by the way. ;D Looking forward to seeing you around throughout the year!

I also havent gotten an atar (hsc 2017) but I recently got my exam marks back for society and culture which was basically a band 2 (68%) and a less than 50% music 2 mark for the half yearlies. You can always strive to improve, and don't ask yourself why you failed, assess your mistakes to motivate you to work harder!
