All 3 math?

Hello,

I was considering doing further 3/4 in year 11 and methods and specialist maths in year 12.

Does anybody with experience in this recommend doing all 3 maths? I understand that only 2 will be included in the final ATAR.

Thanks.

I did the same as what you're thinking about. I personally enjoyed it very much, but at the same time I also thoroughly enjoy maths. If you're super in to maths, just go right ahead. Something else worth considering might be a uni extention program, but generally (or always? I'm not exactly knowledgible in the area) you would've completed methods in year 11 instead. The only problem you're really going to run in to is being bored (or more accurately, having more free time ::) ) - there's a lot of overlap in methods and specialist and I found that aside from getting ahead or helping my friends in methods, there wasn't much to do. Keeping two bound references is also a bit tedious, but certainly not something that should influence your subject choices. I put two lunch times into it a week and I was fine.

Most people complete methods and specialist in the same year. I think further maths is a very practical class and I'm glad I did it. There were times that I used something I learned in further maths in methods or specialist. If you're not worried about having one of your maths forced into your bottom two, and there's not another class you'd rather be doing, there's no reason not to. Honestly it didn't change my ATAR (although I was worried about it); Further Maths ended up in my bottom two simply because it was one of my lower scores.

I'd recommend it if you like maths and you're not concerned about the bottom two thing. It's reasonably common. :)

Do it! What's there to lose?. I would recommend every year 10/11 student to do a 3/4 subject. It will give you a head start for your atar.

Tldr: If you're good at maths go for it!.

How many total subjects are you doing for vce?

Personally I considered it as most people though to be an "easy" high score in further.(not as easy as it sounda to score high in further) However I chose against it since I found further way too boring (tried it out for 2 weeks in headstart) ended up being a great choice since even if I got a 50 it wouldve been in my bottom 2 LOL due to the ridiculous scaling of spec.

Just doing 3 maths gives you little room for error in your other subjects.

Imo would be ideal to do 2 3/4s in yr 11 and 5 in yr 12 if you want 3 maths.

Hey,

I'm doing 7 altogether but 1 in year 10, 2 in year 11 and 4 in yr 12.

then I really see no problem in doing 3 math especially if you felt you did well enough in your year 10 subject  :)
