General Maths or Physics

Hey guys,
Im in year 11 and I'm going to drop legal studies during my exams but I don't know what to drop it for...right now I'm choosing either general or physics but I have no idea which one I should do. I'm currently doing methods, chem, bio, psych and English. I'm at the top of the cohort in methods so I feel like I should choose general but I want to become a doctor and I believe physics will be more beneficial to me but I don't want too much of a workload so please help.

I honestly think you should challenge yourself. It's clear from what you have stated that you excel at Maths Methods, so my vote goes to physics.

It's my personal view that both general/further + methods do not go well together as a subject combination, purely due to the differences in difficulty + content. I view it as a 'one or the other' type of scenario. Others may have different views on this.

If you are aiming to be a doctor (so you ideally want to do medicine, yeah?), I would definitely go down the physics pathway. Best of luck with whatever you decide.

Apologies for the curiosity, but why are you dropping Legal Studies? Difficulty? Lack of interest?

Hey Aaron! I get what you're saying and I may go down the physics path but I'm dropping legal because 1.Teacher can't teach (no disrespect) seriously she uses a PowerPoint made by a teacher a year ago and tells us to write notes and I don't think they like me cause I sit next to the kids who don't do work 2. I lost all interest and legal is English based but I like maths more and not a very good English student :)

Don't worry, I totally understand. I am exactly the same. I wasn't a very good English student at school either. Much preferred technical subjects like Maths and IT :) (to this day I still don't like English, perhaps this is why I am not becoming an English teacher...)

Anyway - only you will know what path to take. Get some thoughts on both Physics and General, read a textbook or two (to get an idea about the content) and make a decision. I'm sure you'll make the right decision for your future aspirations :)

In terms of general/further: It is okay for general - but if you plan on doing Further in Year 12, you need to be aware that whilst the content is perceived to be 'easy', a few marks lost can make a significant difference to your overall score (in the exams), due to the intense competition. Why is this the case? 'Easy' content has its downside.... your ATAR/SS's are based on ranks, not actual scores.

Cannot really comment on Physics since I have had no experience with it. Hopefully someone else can fill the gap.

I know exactly what you mean. I've heard that the slightest mistakes in general can prevent that 40+ study score and I am one to make quite a bit of mistakes so I will look thought the text books. Thank you! You've been a great help!
