Going to an 18th tomorrow, how do I say no to alcohol without it being awkward?
I still cop this 'awkwardness' whenever I get offered alcohol (and i'm 24). I most recently was offered it when I visited family during christmas dinner and had to refuse a few times before it was accepted (bottle of water is much better anyways!). That was awkward.. but ever since I started teaching I've taken the moral high ground lol. It's just something you have to live with - we have an alcohol culture in Australia unfortunately. While the uptake is declining, it still exists.
It is your decision and you should not feel pressured to drink alcohol in any way should you choose not to. Mature up and say no. Also worth noting if you're under 18, there are some additional legal concerns too.
Just wondering, is ATARNotes always this empty? Especially in the LOTE Threads :[
Or is it just because it is December - January?
Will there be more people during the schooling period?
:3 Just out of curiosity
Mostly holidays. It peaks during key periods e.g. GAT, uni offers, exams. There are more boards other than LOTE that are dead - e.g. VCE Technology that barely get threads but that is due to lack of uptake. I would assume subjects that have a low enrolment count don't get much attention as it's reflective of a broader cohort.
I personally find it quite refreshing that most users on ATAR Notes take the time to have a break, go on holiday, spend time with friends/family etc.
It is what we all should be doing! We can't study and think about studying 24/7.

For me personally, i've had the last 2 months off not working so I am well and truly hibernated and ready to get back into the swing of teaching next year.
