VTAC APPLICATION ~ How to rank your course?
« on: June 18, 2017, 02:15:10 pm »

Hi,

Going into 2018, I am hoping to secure an offer for Bachelor of Radiology at either Monash or RMIT.

I was wondering then if this is the case;
Is it worth while for me to put RMIT as number 1, as I have a better chance of obtaining that ATAR than I do Monash
OR
Should I still put Monash first then RMIT, if I wanted to get into Monash?

Thank-you!

Rank your courses by what you want - not what you think you'll get into. :)

Always put want you want to do first, and backups after. In the offer period, you'll only be offered one course - and that's the one highest on your list that you're eligible for.

So, if you put RMIT above Monash and get the ATAR for Monash, you won't get it and end up at RMIT still. But, if you put Monash above RMIT and don't get the ATAR for Monash (but still high enough for RMIT), you'll still get an offer for RMIT.

Nope - likelihood is NOT a consideration.

You could get accepted into 5 courses at once, but VTAC will only tell you that you've been accepted into one. They'll tell you the coures HIGHEST on your preference list. So - put what you MOST WANT at the top, and everything else will take care of itself. DO NOT put at the top what you think you're most likely to get into.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all your replies :)

Another question: Hypothetically I did place Monash first and then RMIT second, but only score high enough for RMIT, would the university know that I placed it second? and if so, would they chances of me getting in be lower than someone who placed the course first?

Does that sort of make sense?

It makes sense and, no - it wouldn't impact your chances whatsoever :)

If VTAC only notifies you of one course that you've applied for, then is there anyway of you finding out if you got into other courses on your list?

Nope. They don't let you know this. Of course, if you got your third preference for example in Round 1.. then you can safely assume that you did not get an offer for preferences 1 and 2.

As stated above and in my responses to threads relating to VTAC preferences, stick to what you WANT, not what you THINK YOU CAN GET INTO. Your preferences should reflect your desire for courses.

If you want to get into the Bachelor of Science at Melb Uni, but you're worried about your ATAR... STILL put it in your first preference if that is the course you desperately want to get into and will be happy with (this is an example.. I know Sci at Melb may not be your first pref lol).

VTAC will ONLY offer you the highest preference on your list that you get an offer for, in each round. Anything else, you will not know.

Remember that majority of offers are made in the first round - so you are taking a gamble in future rounds.

Not that I know of. Although, if you do your preferences right, it won't matter, because you'll be so happy that you got into the course you wanted more than the courses lower on your list ;)

Jokes aside... I don't think so. You can apply directly to the unis, and they can give you an offer independently of VTAC if you wanted to keep options open or something like that.

Thank-you very much Aaron & Brenden for replying. I guess I'll just put the one I want to get in the most #1 then :)
