Hey everyone!
It's that time of year again when VCESS
applications are open, closing on the
28th of July.
What is VCESS?VCESS is a two week summer school that takes place at the University of Melbourne over the summer holidays. It draws in hundreds of students from across the state who have had to deal with some kind of disadvantage during their senior years.
What will I do?You will work with about 200 of your peers to run classes and fun activities for the students. There are so many things that go on at VCESS and simply not enough space to list them all here, so jump onto their site and have a look. Though the academic programme is a really important part of VCESS, the programme also strives hard to provide the students (and tutors) with fun times so that they come away from VCESS having really enjoyed getting involved.
Do I have to be from the University of Melbourne to get involved?NOOOOOOOOOOO
They'll hire anyone. Yes, even you Monash....
Why are you flogging this?I have been involved in VCESS for three years and absolutely adore the programme. Working with 200 tutors equally committed to addressing the systematic unfairness inherent in our education system is nothing short of inspiring. Beyond this, it's a surprisingly fun way to spend two weeks of your holidays—the students in particular are really great!
Like you (!!) I have signed up to VCESS this year but don't have a role yet. I also haven't been asked by anyone to make this post, I've done it off my own bat.
I have a question, who can I ask?Start here! There are plenty of people on AN who have been involved previously (and hopefully again) who will no doug t be able to help you with any questions.
