School Captaincy/Leadership Application HELP

Hi all,
I am in Year 11 and I am about to start the selection process for leadership positions. I'm looking for some tips and I thought a thread like this would be very useful for people who are also looking for some assistance. ;D
I am a passionate leader and I would love to have a leadership position that would allow me to mentor younger students and utilise my skills. My school requires a letter application (no guidelines given) and a Resume, followed by an interview in the next stage.
I was hoping some people out there would have some recommendations of good things to include or say on the application or in the interview. Any general tips on how to be a successful captain or prefect would be greatly appreciated too! :D :)

Some things to write about:
- any previous leadership experience
- your reasons why (besides "I want to be one")
- your plans for the school (realistic ones, not like those TV shows where becoming Class President involves bribing students with no homework)
- how they would benefit from you being leader
- what skills you have to offer that no one else has or does as well as you do and evidence of them (Note: Use common sense when assuming which skills are relevant though.)
VCE: Psych | Eng Lang | LOTE | Methods | Further | Chem
Uni: Bachelor of Science (Hons) - genetics
Current: working (sporadically on AN)

Hey, welcome to these amazing forums.
Umm....School captain...a role most people want
The interview/letter/speech....the obstacles that no one wants to do....and would rather just magically become captain  ::) ::)

Some general tips:
 - Your application/interview should be convincing and confident...(duh)
 - Don't promise things that are unrealistic...if u get elected u will be held accountable
 - The things you express in your interview, you should start doing them around school before anything happens, e.g. to class on time, organisation, care
for other students/teachers. This will indicate you have responsibility and are serious about your application.

Fairly brief....but hope this helps...
good luck  ;)

Hey, Sai Shai Al Samozi. :)

Welcome to ATAR Notes! ;D How are you finding Geography this year?

Great thread. I agree that it'll likely help a lot of people! :)

My main piece of advice, I think, is to very genuinely think about what you want to achieve in the role next year. In your application, be specific with what you think you can do.

Thinking big isn't a bad thing - if you think about it, you'd have the opportunity to set up programs/initiatives/whatever else that might last at your school for very many years. That's a really exciting thing - and if your excitement shows for an idea, you're well on your way to being persuasive.

Let us know how you get on! :)
