Leadership Role?

Hey guys,

ive been trying to decide whether to take on leadership roles in the following years, but i am not sure if it will take too much time away from studying.

I am looking at doing the following:

Year 11
House Vice-Captain
Year 12
Either House Captain or Science Captain

Should i do them? or should i focus on vce?

I mean, it's hard to say with no context/background information of your situation. But on the face of it, I'd say yes - a million times yes.

A few questions:

1) What do you want to get out of a leadership position?
2) How much do you intend to be studying?

1) well science captain would look good on an application to a science role, and i think it may help me grow as a person.
2) i intend to study alot (not 24/7, but a solid amount of time) because im aiming for a high, 90+ kind of atar.

1) Sounds good to me!
2) Neither of the roles you've mentioned will preclude you from such a score.

I reckon you should go for it.

Definitely go for leadership positions! They look great on your CV, they teach you some really important skills, and you'll be really happy that you did them when your look back at your VCE experience.
I held leadership positions during high school, but my big regret is that I didn't go for more and get more involved.

Holding a position certainly won't stop you from achieving highly. I'm pretty sure that the dux of my cohort held about 5 captancies/leadership roles And quite often (just my observations), the people who are involved with leadership positions, co-curricular stuff, etc. are the ones who score highly, because they're motivated people, and are dedicated enough to make the effort to balance things.

In the end, you can always apply, think on it further, and then if you get offered a position and decide you don't want to or can't do it, you can always decline

I've held leadership positions through this year, and recommend that you go for it   You can't and shouldn't study 15/7
